Twilight Reading 6: The End

By Cuchlann on 13 August 2010 | Literature, Voice Module | No Comments

I’m sorry about the lateness. Let me make a few excuses: it was really long, and a pain to edit; then Pontifus toddled off to Otakon and I can’t upload the files; then I moved around a bit, had to pack, blah blah. Finally, I got lazy (or, as Thekittymeister tries to insist, I took a little break). But the final podcast is here!

Angry Literature Nerds 3: BEARS!

By Cuchlann on 30 June 2010 | Literature, Voice Module | 3 Comments

The third installment of the Twilight reading is come! Featured in this episode: cyclones, pulled bear sandwiches, Mormons, Pontifus’s career plans, and Pac-Man. For a more comprehensive list of all the crazy, check out the post tags and the show notes. Suffice it to say, we’re happy to be halfway through, and sad to have half left to go.

As always, show notes under the cut, and leave us comments or questions! Due to the production schedule I’m afraid episode four will be the first place we’ll actually have response time, but look forward to it!

Also, the sound quality’s a bit strange; nothing’s unlistenable, but it’s not up to our usual (lackluster) standards.

The Twilight Experiment pt 2: Cheerleaders

By Cuchlann on 24 June 2010 | Literature, Voice Module | 4 Comments

It’s time again for your dose of someone else’s agony. No, really, it’s all pretty fun. Except the actual reading. That’s terrible.

In this installment you’ll hear about the most terrible of omissions, stalking, and an old friend drawn up out of the mists of our childhoods for comparison.

Episode two!

Show notes are available below the cut. Please let us know what you think, or even ask questions! The moderators should be able to find a way to work them in.

Note: it’s a day late, sorry about that. A nine-ten hour drive caused that. It was actually ready on time, we swear! Next Wednesday… Cartesian dualism gone horribly wrong!

Audio Schadenfreude

By Cuchlann on 16 June 2010 | Literature, Voice Module | 3 Comments

Well… This is odd, I assure you. But, because of what I perceive to be professional obligations (I study the Gothic and I’m a populist), I decided that eventually I would have to read Twilight. Being a rotten bastard, I’ve decided to take as many people down with me as I can. Here’s the recording of that down-going. Thekittymeister, Pontifus, and OGT join me in a Voice Module series of pain and hilarity. Herein you will hear us discuss the first four chapters of Twilight and all the problems we can identify with the book so far.

We explain it in the podcast itself, but here’s a quick guide: Thekittymeister and I have not read the books; Pontifus and OGT are familiar with them through classes. Thekittymeister and I are on a schedule to read four chapters for each podcast, which should be weekly; Pontifus and OGT are acting as moderators/commiserators. Good times are had by all, where we take easy potshots at a big target and wrestle with the political implications of vampires that sparkle.

Here’s the first episode.

Comments are welcome.  Below the cut are the show notes, scanty as they are.

Thus, hefting our Voice Modules upon our backs

By Pontifus on 8 February 2009 | SFCentral, Voice Module | 5 Comments

By popular demand, we have shrugged off the chains of Rapidshare, and now house our podcast, the Super Fanicom Voice Module, upon the pristine shores of our own web server. With any luck, this will mean an improvement in both download speed and the availability of the Module. Hopefully our bandwidth has the fortitude and steely resolve to stare the inevitable onslaught in the eye with nary a shudder.

In case you missed some (or all) of the Modules thus far, they are as follows:

Super Fanicom Voice Module: State of the Universe: Winter 2009

Listen to our podcast!

It’s happened; the moment you’ve begged for you’ve been waiting for you’ve surely been anticipating on some level has arrived: Super Fanicom regulars Cuchlann, lelangir, and I have teamed up with — deep breath — SDS, TheBigN, and TheKittymeister to bring you a podcast that isn’t based on any one show and contains as few spoilers as possible. This means that anyone can (and should) listen to it.

Within, we discuss…well, everything. Believe me when I tell you I cut as many of the frivolous parts as I felt I could. And, for future reference, the VOTOMS character we talk about is this dude.

As always, your comments are appreciated. Let us know how much you like what we’re doing. You like it lots, I’m sure, but one never knows.

Super Fanicom Voice Module: Ride Back 2

By Pontifus on 25 January 2009 | Anime, Voice Module | 9 Comments

Surprisingly relevant.

Being reluctant to judge or even analyze a new show — hey, it’s difficult — I had little to say this time. It’s fortunate that Cuchlann, Kaiserpingvin, lelangir, and SDS were willing to step up and fill the void. Join us as we forge a path through the second episode of Ride Back, among other things, in the verbose fashion you’ve grown to love.

We may move away from the episodic approach in the near future, albeit briefly, so brace yourself for something different — and, in the meantime, leave us some delicious comments.

Super Fanicom Voice Module: Maria†Holic 1

By Pontifus on 14 January 2009 | Anime, Voice Module | 19 Comments

Because no show is complete without cat-eared lolis and caustic maids.

This time, CCY joins the usual Cuchlann-OGT-Pontifus trio as we attempt to wrap our minds around the madness that is Maria†Holic. I like to think we succeeded in part, at least. How does one comment upon a show like this?

On a somewhat related note, this podcast stands alone much better than the others, in my estimation. Watch the episode concurrently, if you like, but know that the effort may rob you of your sanity.

…And, lest I haven’t reminded you enough already, leave us some comments, for only your comments provide us with the eldritch energy we need to survive.

Super Fanicom Voice Module: Kannagi 13

By Pontifus on 7 January 2009 | Anime, Voice Module | 6 Comments

Emo Jin is emo.

If you’ve forgotten about the semi-controversial end of Kannagi (as if you could), the Super Fanicom Voice Module is here to refresh your memory. This one’s a little long, but not to worry; if you don’t have an hour and twenty minutes to spare, you can skip to 25:00 and listen to the commentary on Kannagi’s thirteenth episode, throw the file on your MP3 player of choice, and listen to the rest later.

Oh, and, whatever you think of our aural adventures, we invite you to grace us with your opinion via comment.

Super Fanicom Voice Module: Toradora 13

By Pontifus on 30 December 2008 | Anime, Voice Module | 5 Comments

I always feel bad about snatching random fanart, so here's a link to the relevant Pixiv page.

You may recall Cuchlann’s cryptic teaser from earlier in the month. Surely you’ve been puzzling over it since then, losing sleep, your sanity slowly seeping away — but tonight you can rest easily, for all is revealed: I present to you the Super Fanicom Voice Module, our epic foray into the world of podcasting!

In this inaugural episode, OGT joins Cuchlann and me for some commentary on the thirteenth episode of Toradora. If you’re watching the show, get the episode ready to run before you start the podcast, as we comment on the whole thing, and it’s meant to be watched as we talk (which will probably be a common theme in these podcasts). If not, there’s still a solid half-hour of content before and after the commentary, so listen anyway. And if you like it, or don’t, leave a comment on this post.

In our next podcast…well, I can’t just tell you. But rest assured that it does not end here. Oh, no indeed.
