If anything, ToraDora was a study in different types of cowardice.

Such a great way of describing it. And nice take on Ami; I pretty much agree. Her apparent maturity was absolutely a fragile mask.

@schneider

I definitely needed it. It puts things in perspective so well.

@Shinmaru

As to her advice going over Ryuuji's head, I have to wonder how much of that is his being dense (which I don't doubt is part of it), and how much of it is Ami being intentionally vague. I'm guessing that, to a degree, she shared Minori's fear that things would go to hell if anyone made a tangible decision (though that wasn't her primary or only fear).

@ghostlightning

Haha, I've been wondering if I'll ever come up with a post that you enjoy more than my Athena post. Someday!

Inspired writing. Great stuff. I too felt that Minorin was asking for it. While I'll never be as sympathetic to Ami as most people are, I liked the role she played throughout the whole thing.

Man this post validates the whole 12 moments tradition in this anime blogging hobby. While I'm still bigger on your post on Athena, this one is among my favorites now.

I didn't like Ami at first, too, but she quickly became someone I could at least appreciate, even if I didn't side with her all the time. She has her own view that is valuable to Ryuuji's life, even if her advice tends to fly over his head a lot of the time.

I approve of this post! The slapfest was what Minorin exactly needed at that point in the show, and in some ways I needed it too.

Ami was a great character precisely because she was such a believable coward, hiding behind a mask of maturity that didn't exist (thank god Ryuuji snapped her out of that phase). She realized that she didn't have a chance with Ryuuji, and took it personally. If she had helped him like a real friend, and hit him with the cluebat when he didn't "get it" the first time she said something, then it would have saved her having to get to that scene with Minori in the first place. Ryuuji literally had no one help him figure things out (and he's mostly to blame for that). Because Ami KNEW that, yet let him go on hurting everyone, it helped turn her character into something unique. If anything, ToraDora was a study in different types of cowardice.
