I think what I remember is, it's considered "harmless", or at least was in the post-WWII years. Whether that's true or not, the idea is there: a young girl can safely have a puppy love crush for another girl without any clear threat to her virginity, and as a step towards preparing her for the feeling of loving a man. It's the same concept that has Mikuru asking Kyon to marry her anyway if she's "ruined for marriage" because of Haruhi's antics, and probably what led to the ridiculous Nagi virginity issue a couple months ago. The key thing with a girl-girl puppy love scenario is that it's "pure"--no physical consummation. Actual physical sexual contact of any kind would be frowned upon. It's more like an idolization and idealization of love--恋 (koi) kind of implies a tender but chaste passion for each other. Hence why a lot of yuri series only imply the yuri--it might be more of a cultural thing. It all ties into the concept of "otome" and "yamato nadeshiko", which I'm probably not the best expert on, but just think of purity a lot and you've got the idea.

I don't know how long the idea's been floating around in Japan before the 1900s (not being closely read on Japanese sociology and sociological history), but I think Class S started the process of trying to sexualize the concept in a feminist push to gain wider acceptance of lesbianism. And when I say "Class S" you might as well just imagine I said "Marimite" because, in terms of narrative content, they're similar--although much, much removed from each other in time and intent, I think.

Oh. In terms of Fred's attention to architecture, it's because he went to architecture school, though I'm not sure if he has experience as one.

Black holes will never be the same again. Thanks. Astronomy is ruined for me. ; p

The comment about the admissibility in Japan of a girl’s first love to be another girl is intriguing. Is it accepted, similar to a girl being a tomboy, that she will ‘grow out of it’ at some point, or is it simply a difference of cultural expectations? In some Asian cultures, of course, girls who are close friends will hold hands in public settings as a gesture of friendship—something that, in a couple of the schools I have been to, would likely result in a trip to the guidance counselor (among other things, I’m sure).

That’s actually all I’ve got at the moment, altho I am flattered by the possibility of making an appearance in a future podcast.

I think, when I watched the first episode on my own first, I was just cruising along, and then the dorm manager popped up and started talking and I think I doubled over with sheer hilarity. It has absolutely nothing to do with her nekomimi and tsurupettan status. At all.

Well, okay, a little.

Or, well, a lot.

But not most! This is important!

Oh god me too, I was doubled over trying not to laugh. I'm sure more than a few of the other students waiting for their class in the hall were wondering what was so funny.

OGT, we must join forces as to convince SHAFT to make a dorm leader-spinoff. She is most superior and most addictive.

This was the funniest one out of the bunch, kind of like taking a pill of E and tour an insane asylum playing some Syd-era Pink Floyd. N-Not that I have, uh, done that or anything. Yeah.

I want to join in on the next one gnyaa.

I burst out laughing when they were rambling at the end about the black hole theory. That said, I don't think I'll ever be able to see CCY the same way... xD
