I like modern games as well — but for the most part they’re either ludicrous but co-op, like Gears of War or Halo (which I loathe), or good but versus. I love Soul Calibur 2, for example, but sometimes I don’t want the pressures of fighting my friends. Sometimes I just want to work together to build a better world, by, uh, killing guys (Contra).

There are few things I enjoy more than playing old games with friends. I'd much rather they be old games, though, than newer games. That may just be because I never got into the current generation of games, console games in particular, out of a combination of lack of money and general lack of interest. But I'd agree, in any case, that online-only co-op is just absurd. Why do these developers think there multiple controller ports on those consoles, anyway?

I can definitely attest to this. Playing 8-way halo with people next to you is absolutely epic.
